FCC WON'T EXPAND NET NEUTRALITY REGULATIONS: The FCC will not expand net neutrality regulations to cover individual peering agreements between content providers and last-mile ISPs. "Peering and interconnection are not under consideration in the Open Internet proceeding, but we are monitoring the issues involved to see if any action is needed in any other context," an FCC spokesperson said. The FCC statement follows a blog post from Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, which called for "stronger" net neutrality in light of his company’s recent peering agreement with Comcast. (VentureBeat)
DISH LAUNCHES STREAMING FOR ABC, ESPN, AND DISNEY: Dish Network customers will now have access to live and on-demand streaming content from ABC, ESPN, and the Disney channel. Dish recently signed a deal with Disney that gives it rights to stream the media company’s content online. Dish is also planning to launch a separate over-the-top (OTT) pay-TV service priced around $20 to $30 per month. (Variety)
AMAZON GIVES GREENLIGHT TO SIX ORGINAL SERIES: Amazon has greenlighted six original series, including Alpha House, The After, and Bosch. The e-commerce giant will also produce two new children shows. "The great news is we get the chance to continue working with such a talented group of people. Amazon has been incredibly supportive in their approach to telling original stories and making great television. YOUTUBE IS THE MOST POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT MOBILE APP: YouTube is the most popular entertainment app on smartphones and tablets. Half of all entertainment content on mobile is consumed through the YouTube app, according to new report from the analytics firm Flurry. HULU HIRES NEW HEAD OF CONTENT: Hulu has hired former TV executive Craig Erwich to be its new head of content. Erwich previously worked on the TV series Pretty Little Liars, 24, House, and The Voice.
