Hamas reportedly rejected an Egyptian proposal for a cease-fire with Israel after Israel's security cabinet accepted the proposal, saying that they were not consulted.

"Who negotiates a ceasefire with only 1 of the parties?" A Hamas official told Buzzfeed.

A week of conflict between Hamas militants firing rockets from the Gaza Strip and Israeli jets conducting airstrikes has killed 185 Palestinians and exposed millions of Israelis to indiscriminate rocket fire.

The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Cabinet met on Tuesday morning and accepted the proposal, which calls for a cease-fire to begin within 12 hours of "unconditional acceptance" by the sides, followed by the opening of Gaza's border crossings and talks in Cairo within two days.

Moment later, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri, told The Associated Press that "this proposal is not acceptable."

The Israeli military says 24 rockets have been fired at Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip since the expected start of the cease-fire. There have been unconfirmed reports of airstrikes.
