Minsk (AFP) - Negotiators representing Kiev and Ukraine's separatists agreed early Saturday to stop fighting and create a 30-km demilitarised zone in order to bring lasting peace to eastern Ukraine, they said after talks in Minsk.
"We have signed a memorandum," Kiev's envoy, former president Leonid Kuchma, told reporters. The document should lead to the creation of "a zone of complete security," said separatist leader Igor Plotnitsky, adding that the status of the rebel-held regions of Lugansk and Donetsk was not discussed.
